The Curious Club - week one launch and recap

Last week we launched our very first adventure for The Curious Club; a mindful family walking club created for little explorers and their grown-ups to slow down, connect, and notice the world around them.

The Curious Club meets regularly for gentle, family-friendly walks designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, movement and mindfulness in nature. Each session blends simple activities, playful exploration and moments of calm so children (and adults!) can experience the outdoors in a more intentional way.

Our next gathering will be on 10th July at 9:20am at the Lower Leas Coastal Park, where we’ll be diving into a brand-new beach-themed creative adventure.

Week one, what a beautiful beginning 🌼

Our first session was such a joy, joined by five wonderful families, plus my own little Cheeky Monkey, Solomon.

My little one, Solomon, joined me and five other families for The Curious Club at Enbrook Park where we made recycled cardboard flower vases

We began by gathering together and gently waking up our bodies with some kids yoga-inspired movement, stretching, breathing and focusing our minds and eyes so we could fully tune into the adventure ahead.

Once we were feeling grounded and ready, I introduced our craft for the day: Cardboard flower vase jugs

Then we set off on a gentle walk through Enbrook Park, spending around 40 minutes exploring at a relaxed pace. Along the way, we paused for little moments of curiosity and discovery — spotting flowers with curiously unusual names (like “granny pop out of bed”) thanks to mum Sarah for sharing that story with us! Watching ladybirds and bees at work, and even sharing a few tree-hugging moments along the way. As we wondered, we collected fallen leaves, flowers and branches for our crafts. It was a slow, thoughtful wander filled with questions, community, smiles, the occasional cry of 'I can't walk any further' and noticing the small things that are often missed.

A pause, a snack, and a making moment

We then gathered on the grass for a well-earned break, enjoying healthy snacks, chatting as a community, and beginning our craft.

Using simple cardboard and natural materials gathered along the walk, we created our flower and leaf vase holders, turning everyday materials into something beautiful and personal.

Why this craft works so well

This simple cardboard vase activity is inspired by nature-walk crafting ideas like those shared by Thrive. It’s:

  • Easy to set up with recycled materials

  • Brilliant for developing fine motor skills

  • Perfect for encouraging creativity and focus

  • And best of all… it can be repeated again and again in different ways

The children absolutely loved it, and it was wonderful to see their vases unfold so differently from one another. Here are a few of last week’s creations 🌸✨
