Family wellbeing starts with time together
Life with children can feel wonderfully full. There are school runs, clubs, homework, work, meals, bath time, packed lunches and all the little things in between. Sometimes, amongst all that busyness, finding a moment to simply be together can feel like a luxury.
But family wellbeing doesn't always need to mean a big day out, a carefully planned activity or finding extra time in an already busy week. Sometimes it's simply about creating a little space to slow down, connect and enjoy something together.
That's one of the reasons I'm so excited about an upcoming family yoga and sound bath event here in Sandgate because it's about much more than yoga or sound. It's about community, connection and making time for families to enjoy a shared experience, while also raising money for a local school.

Wellbeing doesn't have to be something we do alone
When we talk about wellbeing, we often think about things we do individually: going for a walk, taking a yoga class, having a treatment, reading a book or finding a quiet moment with a cup of tea.
All of those things have their place, but there is something really lovely about wellbeing becoming something we share. Family yoga offers an opportunity for children and grown-ups to move, play and laugh together.
There is no expectation to be bendy, perfectly still or able to do a particular pose. It's much more about joining in, having a go and enjoying being present with one another.
For children, movement can be a wonderful way to explore how their bodies feel and release some of that seemingly endless energy. For grown-ups, it can be a chance to step away from the usual demands of the day and reconnect with their children in a completely different setting.
And perhaps most importantly, everyone gets to have fun.
What is a family sound bath?
Alongside the family yoga, we'll also be joined by Giles Mountain, who will be leading the family sound bath. Giles is a local sound practitioner and will create a gentle, immersive experience using sound and vibration to help families slow down, listen and relax together. A sound bath offers something quite different from the movement and playfulness of yoga, giving everyone an opportunity to pause and enjoy a shared moment of calm.
For children, this might mean lying down, listening to the sounds, exploring how different instruments sound or simply enjoying a quieter moment. And if your child doesn't want to lie still for the whole thing? That's absolutely fine too!
The aim isn't to create a room full of perfectly still, silent children, because let's be realistic! It's about giving families the opportunity to experience sound and relaxation together in a way that feels comfortable and enjoyable.

Giles and I are really looking forward to bringing these two practices together, creating an experience that combines movement, connection, play and rest — something the whole family can enjoy.
The benefits of doing something together
One of the things I love most about family activities is that the benefits don't necessarily stop when the session ends.
Doing something together creates shared experiences, the kind of little memories that become part of family life. It gives children and grown-ups something to talk about, laugh about and remember.
It can also provide a welcome change from screens, schedules and the usual routines of family life.
And there is something particularly valuable about children seeing the adults around them taking time to look after their own wellbeing too. When we show children that movement, rest, connection and looking after ourselves are all normal parts of life, we're helping them develop their own understanding of wellbeing.
And this one is about community too
This event has another really important purpose. The family yoga and sound bath is being held as a community fundraiser for Sandgate Primary School PTA, with money raised going towards supporting the children at our local school.

As a parent and someone who is involved with the school community, being able to bring together something I love, yoga and family wellbeing, with a cause that directly benefits local children feels particularly special.
It's a chance to come along, spend some time together, meet other local families and enjoy an afternoon of wellbeing, while also helping to raise funds for our school. That's what community is all about, really. People bringing their time, skills and energy together to create something positive for the place they live.
Come and join us
So, if your family could do with a little time to slow down, move, breathe, listen and have some fun together, we'd love you to join us. The session will bring together family yoga and a sound bath in a relaxed, welcoming environment, with no pressure to be good at yoga, sit perfectly still or do everything exactly as instructed.
Come as you are. Join in as much or as little as feels right for you and your family.
And while you're enjoying some precious time together, you'll also be helping to raise money for Sandgate Primary School PTA, thank you.
I can't wait to see you and your family there.
