🌈 Colour Friday: A Different Kind of Shopping Day

This year, I’m proudly celebrating Colour Friday; a positive, purpose-driven alternative to the usual rush of Black Friday.

💛 Colour Friday is a day to celebrate small, creative and independent businesses that make shopping joyful, thoughtful and kind.

Why Colour Friday is important to cheekymono?

Let’s be honest: for many of local small-business makers, and a growing number of conscious shoppers, Black Friday doesn’t feel like it fits. It comes with frantic discounts, mass-produced goods, and pressure to buy fast and buy more. Meanwhile, I’m busy creating and curating meaningful, sustainable pieces that are made to be loved, not just bought.

Colour Friday flips the script. It’s about celebrating creativity, independent, local makers, and thoughtful shopping. It’s about slowing down, choosing pieces that tell a story, and backing those of us who create with heart and integrity.

Colour Friday was created by Holly Tucker to celebrate small, creative and independent businesses — a joyful stand against the rush and overwhelm of Black Friday.

What this means for you — and for cheekymono

On Colour Friday, I won’t be chasing rock-bottom prices or frantic marketing pushes. Instead, I’ll be shining a light on what cheekymono believes in:

  • Handmade, fairtrade, sustainable gifts that bring genuine joy.

  • Independent business, creativity and the energy of the local artisan community.

  • Shopping with intention; choosing quality over quantity, thought over impulse.

So if you’re planning to shop this year, this is your invitation to join the calm, colourful side of the season.

Every time you shop small, you’re voting for creativity, community and sustainability. Here in Folkestone, we’re lucky to have so many brilliant makers and independents bringing colour to our high street and harbour, go support them and shop local!

How you can join in

Whether you’re picking up one gift or many, here are simple ways you can take part:

  • Choose a maker or small business you’ve not supported before.

  • Pick something that’s thoughtful, maybe a gift for someone you care about and a nod to the planet.

  • Share the story of what you bought (or liked): tag your maker, shout about the business, spread the word.

  • Skip the frenzy: let Colour Friday be less about panic and more about joy, community and conscious choice.

Let’s make this season truly meaningful

This Christmas, I’d love it if you celebrated with me, by choosing colour, creativity and conscience over discount chaos, we build a shopping experience that’s kinder, longer-lasting and more special.

Thank you for supporting cheekymono. Here’s to a season of colour, craft and joy — not just today, but for the year ahead.

Warmest wishes,

Sara x
